This will be my last U2 post for awhile, I promise.
Please bear with me.
Last night the band played the penultimate show in their five night stand at MSG. For the first time, I sat behind the stage. As the seats were only four or five rows back from the 20-foot drop between the stage and stands, the proximity to the band was excellent. Unfortunately the view was mostly of their back sides, when it wasn't partially obscured by the beaded curtains or other lighting rigs.
I'd always heard that the best part of rear of stage seats was "seeing what the band sees". Yes, that was the highlight, but even that couldn't compensate for the feeling of disconnection I felt throughout. As exciting as it was to be so close to U2 and witness the Garden crowd going mad, it was like watching it all on TV.
From the Inbox: Condo - 306 Duress Avenue EP
I'm will try to avoid hyperbole here, but it's going to be difficult. You see, I'm enjoying Condo's 306 Duress Avenue EP enough to start thinking of words like brilliant, audacious, and maybe even shocking. It's really that good.
Why shocking? Perhaps I'm a bit too skeptical when it comes to appraising bands that send out mass promotional emails. It's nearly akin to avoiding lawyers who advertise in subway cars, right? Well, maybe not that bad, but whatever doubts I have about Condo were vaporized after just a couple plays. Really, I should thank them for including One Louder in their email blast. I may not have listened to them otherwise.
Now I'm encouraging you to do the same. Condo are a New York band, hailing from the Lower East Side. They are comprised of James Roe (vocals), Ryan McNeil (guitar, vocals), Mary Ann Paredes (electric piano, vocals), Patrick Paredes (brother to Mary Ann, drums), and Dan Falt (bass). Here is how they describe their sound:
